BN promised but PR delivers
Some of you may remember this promise made by Barisan Nasional just before the General Elections in 2008 for a pedestrian bridge to be built over Persiaran Kewajipan. Click here to read the news article. 4 years went by and despite more than 1000 signatures collected and submitted by devotees of Subang Jaya Buddhists Association and Kuil Sri Varatharajah Perumal, JKR Federal replied with no good news.
I went to see JKR Selangor and after writing in to them, I received news that JKR Selangor would be building the much needed pedestrian bridge using state allocation. Below are the details:-

On Wesak Day this year, our Dato' Menteri Besar launched the ground breaking ceremony of the pedestrian bridge.
Article in The Star - Devotees relieved as pedestrian bridge begins to take shape
DEVOTEES of Subang Jaya Buddhist Association (SJBA) and Sri Varatharajah Perumal Temple at SS13, Subang Jaya, can now breathe a sigh of relief as the construction of a pedestrian bridge across Persiaran Kewajipan has begun.
The good news was announced by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim during Wesak Day celebrations at SJBA on Saturday.
The state government has allocated RM13.5mil [note: it should be RM1.35mil] to the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) for the project, after a fruitless wait by the devotees for the federal JKR to build the bridge.
“It will be completed on Dec 24 this year,” Khalid said.
Preparation for the construction started last December and piling works have already been completed.
The contractor for the project is Aminsa Bina Sdn Bhd.
SJBA president Chim Siew Choon said they were promised the pedestrian bridge before March 2008, and they were shocked when they discovered that the project did not materialise.
“We submitted 1,600 signatures to the Works Ministry but received no reply,” he said.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said the federal JKR cited lack of funds as the reason for not building the bridge.
“It said it would try to apply for funds in the next Malaysia Plan.
“It also said the signalised pedestrian crossing at the Kewajipan interchange at the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) was sufficient, but we found it was too dangerous,” she said.
Yeoh said Khalid was invited to the site and subsequently, the state government approved the funds for the bridge to be built in front of SJBA.
She added that besides ensuring the safety of the pedestrians, who had to risk their lives trying to cross the 10-lane Persiaran Kewajipan, the bridge would also help reduce traffic congestion in the area.
During the press confeference, Khalid added that a 929 sq m plot of land near SJBA had been reserved for a Sikh temple, the first in Subang Jaya.

Unity Walk
Malaysians have moved away from that terrible episode in history of 13 May 1969 where our differences were magnified and race-based governance was established. This Unity Walk is for Malaysians in 2012 and in particular the community of Subang Jaya to begin ushering the dawn of a new Malaysia. We walk in support of true unity and freedom from race-based politics. Malaysians of all ages, see you there!

“Tindakan menggantungkan bendera parti ini sama seperti menampal iklan ah long,” katanya.
“Pihak majlis memberi pengecualian menggantung bendera sekiranya parti politik menganjur majlis tetapi selepas itu ia perlu dibuka kerana menjadi kesalahan menggantung bendera sebelum kempen pilihan raya,” katanya.

Pemimpin muda PR diyakini mampu bertahan

No to billboards in residential area
Article in SJ Echo - Mushrooming Advertising Billboard Poser
SUBANG JAYA, MAY 22 2012: JUST like mushrooms emerging after the rain, advertising billboards are popping up in Subang Jaya.
The latest billboard which was erected just over a weekend in SS18 fringing Persiaran Tujuan towers 40feet from the ground and is a mere few feet away from the barricades along the main road.
Prior to the placement and erection of the billboard, no notification was made to neighbouring homes and the required signboard on site with details of the project appears to be non-existent leaving ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh totally in the dark about this latest move to earn more for the Subang Jaya Municipal Council coffers.
"There was no prior consultation with residents of SS18 especially those whose houses face the billboard which towers over their homes."
"The billboard is located at one of the dangerous bends along Persiaran Tujuan where several serious accidents had happened recently," Hannah said at the site of the structure. She spent some time discussing with owners of houses adjacent to the structure with MPSJ councilor Dr KM Loi.
Hannah said billboard applications submitted to MPSJ should be scrutinised and public consultation must be sought before a decision is made on the location.
"The location of this latest structure creates an uncomfortable environment for homes around it. Even structures erected at commercial areas should also take into consideration the impact on the nearby shophouses."
"Billboards erected at commercial areas appear to be blocking the facade and signages of businesses there," she added.
Hannah said she was seeking more information from MPSJ president Dato Asmawi Kasbi on this matter, especially on proposed and existing billboards in Subang Jaya.
She wants the permit for the advertising billboard in SS18 to be terminated once its license which runs until the end of 2013 expires and structure removed.
Hannah also wants MPSJ to declare and make public the quantum of revenue generated from advertising billboards in the municipality.
"We understand that such billboards generate a revenue for the local council. The revenue earned must benefit residents living in the immediate area."
"I want the council to use the revenue generated from the SS18 billboard to be used to resurface the roads in the area and used to upgrade facilities in the immediate housing area," she added.
In recent months, several billboards had suddenly popped up in Subang Jaya namely in SS13, SS15 and USJ6 (which was illegal).
Meeting the residents in SS18 during the site visit yesterday
I'm requesting from MPSJ the followings:-
(1) For safety purpose, this unipole should be relocated. This bend on Persiaran Tujuan has seen at least 1 fatal accident recently. [The Timbalan YDP of MPSJ has informed me today that MPSJ is working on its relocation].
(2) Prior consultation to be done with stakeholders before future approval is given
(3) Revenue generated from these unipoles/billboards should directly benefit the stakeholders ie. resurfacing of roads in the vicinity
(4) MPSJ should declare and publish the revenue collected from these unipoles/billboards

'We spent almost 2 hours walking around the whole shopping mall distributing 1,000 flowers specially for the occasion.'
'This year, we decided to be different and chose the shopping mall as our way of reaching out to shoppers,' Hannah said.
Many shoppers took the opportunity to pose for photographs with Hannah during her walkabout.

162 Projek Tidak Diluluskan, SYABAS Tidak Layak Urus Air Selangor
My question in the State Assembly - Article from www.selangorku.com

Internet blackout day on 14 August 2012
Stop 114A — 14 August 2012 Internet Blackout
The DAP would like to fully support the campaign launched by The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) Malaysia to hold Malaysia’s first ever internet blackout day to protest against the introduction of the Evidence (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2012.
On May 9 2012, the Evidence (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2012 was passed in the Dewan Negara and gazette by the Law Minister last month. We deem the amendment as a blatant intrusion upon the fundamental human rights of Malaysia’s internet users and thus urge the government to repeal this amendment immediately.
Section 114(A) severely infringes upon the freedom of online expression and undermines the civil liberties of Malaysia’s internet users. We believe the amendment may be construed as an attempt by the powers that be to censor and police what can and cannot be said on the Internet. Such regulation passed with an ulterior motive in mind, only serves to undermine the purpose of the internet to disseminate information and facilitate an environment of open discussion.
Due to the broad scope of the terminology employed in the amendment, situations may arise where the act may impair the delivery of justice to wronged parties and even be used to persecute them. Internet subscribers may be held accountable for any comments or content deemed slanderous or offensive published through their internet connection even though it was published by somebody else without their consent. Victims of online identity theft may be charged under the act if offensive content is published online using their stolen accounts.
It is plain for all to see that the act just makes it easier for the prosecution to find scapegoats when dealing with cybercrimes instead of finding the real perpetrators. Under this act, identity thieves, con-artists and hackers will remain at large so long as they ply their trade using an internet connection that is attached to somebody else’s name.
Furthermore, the following sentence “is presumed to have published … unless the contrary is proved” found in Section 114(A) places the burden of proof on the defendant. This runs counter to the principle of law where the defendant is innocent until proven guilty.
The act also openly discourages people from sharing their internet be it access to their internet connections or to the websites they operate. Hotels, restaurants and even cyber cafes will no longer be able to offer internet access to its patrons for fear of falling afoul of the law. This clearly runs contrary to the objective of making Malaysia one of the most “connected” countries in the world.
Thus, we would hereby like to reiterate our support for CIJ's initiative to launch an Internet blackout day on 14 August to voice our protest and dissatisfaction against the implementation of the Evidence (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2012.

Restoration of football field in USJ 11
Article in Selangor Times :
SUBANG JAYA: The USJ 11/1 football field, which has been plagued with patches of barren soil for the past few years, has now been replanted with grass by the local council.
“It will take three months for the grass to grow,” said Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) Youth, Sport and Culture senior assistant director Muhammad Zaki Yusoff.

The council will then carry out rolling works to ensure the 10,988 sq metre field is level.
Muhammad Zaki was speaking to the press during a visit at the field on Tuesday.
He said the estimated cost to repair the field was RM180,000 but after an open tender, the field was patched up for RM150,000.
“Field maintenance will be RM5,900 a month, which includes cutting grass twice a month, fertilisers, and cleaning nearby futsal courts.”
Work to construct drains around the field to prevent water retention will be completed in three weeks.
“The field is now much nicer. It used to be so sandy from soil erosion that you could make sandcastles here,” said resident Gary Wong.
He said the field, together with the futsal court, volleyball court, and skateboard park next to it, enjoyed heavy usage by residents from the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Wong, who has been living in USJ 11 for 16 years, says he now looks forward to bringing his three children to the field to play.
“It is a big improvement. I hope the field can stay like this or even improve further,” said USJ 11/3 Residents’ Association chairperson Jeffrey Khoo.
Also present during the visit was Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh who said the field is the biggest in the area and as such is heavily used.
She called on nearby residents to monitor visitors to the field and advise them not to use it until the grass has fully grown.
Concerning individuals who drink bottled beverages at the field and leave broken glass behind, she urged residents to call the police if they see such people.
“Don’t confront them. Call the police and let the authorities deal with them,” said MPSJ councillor Rajiv Rishyakaran who was also present.
Yeoh added that she will be using her allocation to place more lights at the field for added security at night.

Recently, I purchased 10 bicycles for the Rukun Tetangga USJ 13 to assist them in patrolling the neighbourhood. Even though security is not under the jurisdiction of the Selangor State Government but the Home Ministry, I firmly believe we should all fight crime together. Therefore, I have used my state allocation to purchase these bicycles for the residents.
